Emergency Fund for Needy People
Prior to developing a working relationship with Teaming for Technology, the Emergency Fund dealt with technical issues in ways most small nonprofits without IT staff do. Our organization sought out in-kind donations of computers, web site design and other assets without the appropriate knowledge of how to maintain them. Staff members made frantic calls to relatives and friends when crisis hit rather than properly setting up our systems for compatibility, virus-protection and nightly back-ups. In general, we spent more time reacting to problems than building solutions.
Once the initial investments of writing the proposal, developing the plan and assessing available resources is complete, Teaming for Technology maintains that delicate balance of structure and flexibility that nonprofits need to strategically tackle and implement their Technology Plans. The introductory workshop was extremely helpful and my best advice to nonprofits new to the T4T process is to Pay attention to its core messages -- be smart about creating your plan.
We were particularly lucky to have a volunteer who took us under his wing and nearly single-handedly designed 2 new relational databases, implemented a networked calendar, resolved a problem with our website, trained staff in handling technical issues and learning new applications, and coordinated other volunteer efforts as needed. Moreover, he discussed technical issues in terms we understood, making the process of solving our own problems a lot less frightening.
With hard work and commitment from the top tiers of our agency down, we are poised for the next level of fund raising and service capability.
