Gilda's Club
It took the collaborative powers of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 134, IBM, DEVRY, and Teaming for Technology to network the Chicago Gilda's Club loop location. Gilda's Club is a special place where the focus is on living with cancer. And where men, women and children with any kind of cancer and their family members and friends can plan and build life-changing emotional and social support.
"The completion of our LAN and acquisition of new hardware has dramatically improved both the quality and speed of our interoffice communications. We are now finally in a position to begin to build and effectively utilize our demographic and donor databases," says Gilda's Club Program Coordinator, Andrea Karoff.
Donations from IBM provided a necessary computer and server for Gilda's Club. Interns from DEVRY helped prepare all workstations to be networked. Teaming for Technology VISTA members configured the server and conducted the installation of computer hardware. IBEW Local 134 volunteers, Richard Sipple, Daniel Kenevan and Tony Vuolo, dedicated numerous hours to the assessment, supervision, and installment of network cabling throughout the walls of the four-story Gilda's Club facility. Thanks to the dedication and multifaceted skills of the community, Gilda's Club now has a network, through which they may share files and access the Internet.
The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) represents more than 780,000 members who work in a wide variety of fields, including utilities, construction, telecommunications, broadcasting, manufacturing, railroads and government. The Local 134 has shown great dedication to volunteerism and community involvement. Their efforts in working with Teaming for Technology at Gilda's Club are greatly appreciated!
