MIKVA Challenge
Teaming for Technology supported the Chicago installment of our Student Voices Program during its first year. The program provides teachers with a hands-on civics curriculum where students develop a youth-issues agenda, study elections, maintain a dialog with lawmakers, and create public service projects. The team provided consulting services in the purchase and installation of 38 various computers and 7 printers to 20 high schools scattered about the entire city. Upon the completion of the program year, our program donates these computers to the schools.
At one school, Josephinum High School, Teaming for Technology was particularly instrumental in connecting MIKVA Challenge with a low-cost electrician that saved both the high school and our organization a great deal of money, which we were able to allocate toward other project needs. Teaming for Technology served as liaisons in many circumstances and technical consultants in others often traveling to the locations to ensure that all computers and printers were networked and functioning as our curriculum demanded.
We always felt comfortable to contact the team with any technical issue concerning our high school classrooms or even our administrative offices. The VISTA members even participated in a MIKVA Challenge activity, judging our Student Elections and speaking to our participants on the value of public service, on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
